Ad ware, Spyware slowing you down?
Most people are unaware of what we are talking about when it comes to spyware and ad ware. but you can mention a virus and every body knows whats going on.. Little do people know that there is not much difference between the 3.
I will try to break this down and explain what each process does in terms of you computing.
Everyone has heard of tracking cookies. These are little pieces of information stored on your computer when you visit a website so the next time you view the page it will load faster and only has to renew the content that has changed.
Ad ware is part of the cookie tracking process, but it is often used as a tool for online advertiser.
When ad ware invades you PC it is doing one thing and on thing only. it is spying on you to figure out where you shop, what you are shopping for, and how the best way to throw a pop up ad at you.
Example.
Ever look up a book or a part or anything on your PC and all of sudden you go to look for something else and you see items you previous searched for on the corners from company you have visit with the same item you where looking at? If you have and 99% of us do then ad ware has built up on your computer.
Spyware is often the same.
Spyware is a type of malware that can be installed on computers,
and which collects small pieces of information about users without
their knowledge. The presence of spyware is typically hidden from the
user, and can be difficult to detect. Typically, spyware is secretly
installed on the user's personal computer. Sometimes, however, spywares such as keyloggers are installed by the owner of a shared, corporate, or public computer on purpose in order to secretly monitor other users.
While the term spyware suggests software that secretly
monitors the user's computing, the functions of spyware extend well
beyond simple monitoring. Spyware programs can collect various types of personal information, such as Internet surfing
habits and sites that have been visited, but can also interfere with
user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing
additional software and redirecting Web browser
activity. Spyware is known to change computer settings, resulting in
slow connection speeds, different home pages, and/or loss of Internet
connection or functionality of other programs. In an attempt to
increase the understanding of spyware, a more formal classification of
its included software types is provided by the term privacy-invasive software.
So what is the difference between ad ware and spyware and a virus??? Very little. All are illegal to be installed on your system with out your knowledge. All 3 slow your PC down to a crawl and make browsing the web slower and slower until it is almost like death to do anything.
